Dr. Chris Alexander - The Three Stages of Every Career
Chris Alexander is a partner at Stress Engineering Services Inc. in northwest Houston, where he leads the midstream pipeline practice. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M in ‘91, with Mechanical Engineering graduate degrees in 1993 (M.S.) and 2007 (Ph.D.). While at A&M he was a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, Ross Volunteer Company, and Artillery Band Drum Major. He is a 3rd generation Aggie Mechanical Engineer and his wife, Tanya, is the class of ‘93. He and Tanya have three children and live in Magnolia in High Meadow Ranch. In 2013 he authored, Be the Beans, a parable on the power of optimism.
In addition to “living the dream” as a consulting engineer, husband, father, and friend of many, Chris loves business development and management. His real passion is to see people live their dreams and experience fulfillment in life through their families and careers. In counseling, managing, and working with colleagues and staff members over the years, he has developed several “high level” concepts to help foster successful career development action plans.
Today’s discussion will focus on how we can enhance our careers, and help others including those we manage, by understanding the “three stages” of every career that include sole-contributor, accomplish through others, and accomplish by vision. At its core this is the ultimate Aggie concept, because everyone knows the joke – “What do you call an Aggie in 5 years? The answer… BOSS.
