Joe Reynolds, former WWII and Korean War Veteran, tells his story

Today's breakfast meeting marked the first breakfast meeting under the new reign of 2006 President Stephanie Garner. Everyone in The Reveille Club is proud to have Stephanie represent The Aggie tradition of "Aggies doing business with Aggies" that is The Reveille Club of Houston.

As the guest speaker for this meeting, in front of approximately 65 Aggies, Joe Reynolds recounted a bit of his story from his days as a US soldier in WWII and The Korean War.

Opening his remarks with a joke regarding the newly crowned NCAA College Football Champion Texas Longhorns, Joe said, "While I tried to root for the horns, I found myself jumping off of the couch with 'Get that ball, Trojan!'. "I just could not pull for the horns",
he smiled.

Making the most of the time he had with this fine crowd of Aggie business men and business women, Joe promptly then directed his focus to the importance of his story as a US Soldier. From direct encounters with the enemy to commentary on todays conflict in Iraq, Joe's story left many leaving the room saying, "I could have listed to him for hours."

Attached to this article is a podcast of his entire 20 minute talk to The Reveille Club. Podcast audio provided by Perry Video Productions and Tendenci Membership Management Software.
Richard Scruggs from The Aggie 100 and TAMU CNVE

Thank you for your patience with the download of this podcast audio file. This morning, The Reveille Club held its weekly Thursday networking breakfast at The Houston City Club. This meeting was a special meeting in that it was a celebration of the acheivements of the Houston companies making the first inaugural Aggie 100. In attendence were nearly 100 Aggies from the Houston business community. The Reveille Club breakfast started around 6:30 with networking. At 7:15, with a loud, Howdy! from president Harry McMahan, breakfast was served and the line formed for the egg, fruit, bacon, and biscuit buffet. The group of attendees swelled to such numbers that extra tables had to be requested to accomodate the crowd gathered for the breakfast meeting. Around 7:30, Harry McMahan opened the floor for introductions. One by one, each Aggie stood and gave a short description of their business and their role within that business. The introductions for this meeting took about 2x as long as...

Stephanie gets connected...

An interesting twist on networking...

Several weeks ago, I had a first interview scheduled with JPMorgan Chase several hours after our Reveille Club breakfast. I had mentioned having an interview to Harry the previous week , so when I arrived he wished me luck and asked who the meeting was with. When I told him it was Chase, immediately he pointed to Robert Dwyer and said, "you need to talk to this guy!" Though Robert's nametag still said he was with Wells Fargo, he had made a move to Chase just weeks before. The irony is that this was a networking breakfast with no speaker so I spent nearly an hour getting background and feeling comfortable with Chase, literally hours before my interview. How great is that?!!

The end of the story... I'm starting a new career with Chase as an area manager. The downside is that it will afford me far less time with my new-found Aggie family. The upside is that I am richer for having the privelege of meeting you all.
From unemployment, to The Reveille Club, to employment

When I lost my Safety Manager position on 04/01/05, it was the first time since I graduated in May '92 that I was without a job. Needless to say, it hit me pretty hard and I was very depressed. But at Bevo Burn '05 while cooking with the Houston A & M Club, I ran into Harry McMahan, President of the Reveille Club, and he invited me to come to the Reveille Club meetings. I went the very next week and was overcome by the people who approached me after introducing myself and telling the club about my situation. Some gave me contacts and others gave me valuable advise on how to conduct my job search, and believe me, the advice helped a lot because I am a safety professional - not a job hunting professional. Contacts led to more contacts and soon I started getting interviews. After being unemployed for only 11 weeks, I landed a position that is not just a job, but a career. I have to thank President Harry McMahan, Paul Pausky with the Association of Former Students, John Steere with Vector Resource Group, Trey Shaffer with Environmental Resource Management, Chris Grunkemeyer with Association of Former Students Career Services and many other fellow Aggies of the Reveille Club that helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. If you're unemployed or looking for a career change, get yourself to those Reveille Club meetings every Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m. - They will help you!!! See ya there.

Career Searching

I became more active in The Reveille Club when I was laid off in September 2004. I was surprised and comforted by the overwhelming generosity of the organization and its members. They inspired me and made my 3 months of unemployment seem more like a transition period. My current employer found my resume posted on reveille.org and offered me a job within two days of contacting me. Thanks to The Reveille Club I didn't just find a job, I found a career.

2002 Graduate's Story of Landing Her First Job

When I graduated in August of 2002, I faced the daunting task of finding a job in a depressed economy. Before graduating, my marketing professor told my class about the Reveille Club in Houston. I didn't attend my first meeting until January 2003, but after a few meetings, I realized the value and power of the Aggie Network. With the guidance and help of a few Reveille Club members, I landed my first job with the Texas A&M Sports Network in April 2003. Because of the dedication of these members, I continued to attend meetings and have made so many valuable Aggie contacts over the last few years. My hope is that one day I can help a fellow Aggie find their first job, just as those members (and you know who you are) initially helped me.
