Biography
Paula Hobbie’s career spans an extensive and diverse background in sales, marketing and event management. Over the past 18 years, Paula has held management positions in the convention, sports, meeting planning and special events industry. Prior to joining the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as Group and Event Sales Manager, Mrs. Hobbie was the Director of Special Events for the Heisman Memorial Awards Dinner and Presentation in New York City.
Mrs. Hobbie began her career in Indianapolis, Indiana as Senior Event Manager and eventually became Assistant Sports Director for the Indiana Convention Center and the RCA Dome. She was responsible for managing state, national and international conventions, major concerts and sporting events. She has served on various boards and committees including the local organizing committee for the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis and New Jersey. After leaving Indianapolis, she accepted a position in the New York City as Special Events Sales Manager at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. She also worked for the New York City Sports Commission (NYCSC) and played an essential role in securing the 1998 New York Goodwill Games. Following NYCSC she worked at the Downtown Athletic Club as Director of Membership and ultimately changed roles within the organization to work as the Director of Special Events for the Heisman Memorial Awards Dinner and Presentation.
Mrs. Hobbie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and is a graduate of New York University Sports and Special Events Marketing Program. She is married to Jerry Hobbie, Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach for the University of Houston, and has two beautiful daughters, Joanna age 14 and Lea age 12.
