A new book about the history of the MSC and the Aggie experience explores the role the building, its programs, and leadership have played in the transformation of Texas A&M to a world-class university. Building Leaders, Living Traditions: The Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University by author Amy L. Bacon ’91 and published by Texas A&M University Press details the entire history of the MSC using interviews, archival records and images to bring the story to life.
Amy L. Bacon ’91, author of Building Leaders, Living Traditions: The Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University, served as the vice president of Development for the MSC Council while an undergraduate at the university. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in history from A&M and a Master’s degree in public history from the University of Houston. Bacon’s career experience includes being a professional fundraiser for the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, University of Houston-Clear Lake, and fundraising consulting for Rice University. She is currently working on a biography of Houston sculptor, the late Lawrence M. Ludtke, who sculpted the James Earl Rudder statue and the General James F. Hollingsworth statue both located on the A&M campus. Recently, she relocated to Baton Rouge from League City, Texas, with her husband, Robert D. Bacon ’91, and their daughter, Ellie. The Bacons are very active in supporting the MSC and also serve on the Vice President for Student Affairs’ Aggie Spirit Development Council.
