MCSF Event to Raise Glasses and Money for Children of the Corps
The motto of the MCSF is "Honoring Marines by Educating their Children." Since 1962 the Mission of the MCSF has been to provide college scholarships to needy and deserving children of current and former Marines. Priority is given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action. To date, the foundation has awarded over 22,000 scholarships totaling about $40 million.
These Marine families that have sacrificed so much for our country are finding it increasingly difficult to afford a college education for their children. Without this financial assistance a higher education would not be possible for most of these children. The average family income of scholarship recipients is less than $41,000 annually. The average annual scholarship is about $3,000.
In addition, the foundation has a goal to provide $30,000 in scholarship assistance to every child of a Marine, and Navy corpsman serving with Marines whose parent is killed in the War on Terror. You can learn more about the MCSF at the web site
www.mcsf.com. The foundation is a 501(c)3 organization.
Last year at our event in Houston, Salut! to the Corps!, we raised over $165,000 for scholarships for children of Marines in the greater Houston area. The event is billed as "An evening of wine tasting, great food and patriotic inspiration." This year our event will be held on Sunday evening, November 1, 2009 at One Houston Center in downtown Houston.
We are currently recruiting corporate and private sponsors and volunteers that want to help with this worthy cause.
